Mean Girls and Boys

What has happened or not happened in society today? I am so amazed that we still live in a world where a boy or girl can say one thing and completely ruin the reputation of another girl. Why has this not been stopped? Consider this: _________ had sex with Adam. ____________ is a "ho". Okay now, fill in the blank. It could be anyone's name, even yours. Please remember that if someone is gossiping about someone else to you then they are going to gossip about you too! What got me to thinking about this was that my youngest daughter came home from school one day this week and was so upset by something that she had heard about her cousin. Her cousin went to a different school last year but they are in the same school now. Let's call her cousin Lindsey. Belle was sitting at the lunch table and one of her friends was texting back and forth with someone she knows at the school Lindsey attended last year. Well, this person does not like Lindsey so he decided to tell everyone that Lindsey went to third base with him, but of course he didn't say it that nice. He decided to really put Lindsey's reputation on the line. Well, when the girls at the table heard this rumor they immediately got up and starting spreading it around the school. WHY??? Why do girls help these boys ruin another girls reputation? Why is there no Code of Honor among today's young girls and women? Have they learned nothing from their mothers, aunts, grandmothers and other women that have already lived thru this? Why do parents not realize that their daughters are so incredibly vicious? These girls can be so mean at school but if you talk to a parent they swear that their kids wear a halo. What happend to being guilty until proven innocent? I believe that girls should take a stand and say 'no more' to this kind of behavior. It is so easy for someones reputation to be destroyed and it is just as easy for this kind of behavior to be stopped. Just because a boy broke up with one girl and now likes you doesn't mean he will protect you, especially when it comes to looking 'cool'. Always remember, if a boy is going to talk about his ex-girlfriend he is going to talk about you when you break up, and you will break up. You are young and there will be many 'loves' in your life. I would hope that young girls will realize that if a boy doesn't respect other girls, then he doesn't really respect you either. I do believe that society can be changed if all girls were willing to take a stand and stop disrepecting one another. Always remember, it could be your name in the blank at any moment. Lindsey was devastated to hear that her name had been attached to a rumor so vile. She didn't want to go back to school the next day. Unfortunately, when a girl's reputation is ruined they give up on themselves and miss out on education and the social events. I just don't understand why one girl would want to undermind the self-esteem of another girl. Most rumors are not true and karma always has a way of coming back and kicking you in the butt when you least expect it. Please start respecting one another and stop the practice of the Scarlet Letter. You could be the next one to wear it!
